I’m finally getting back into the swing of things. Mama Elephant’s Lion Dance stamp set was on the top of my list to use, as well as some other products that are sitting in my “to use” pile.
Chinese New Year is almost here! It’s on Feb. 16th this year. Like with every holiday, I’m behind on making cards for it. I bought Mama Elephant’s Lion Dance stamp set when it released in November 2017, but being in Canada, shipping takes a while, then Christmas happened, then I went on vacation, and it sat on my desk with a bunch of other stamp sets.
I really love Chinese New Year cards. They’re always red and gold and sparkly or shiny. Ideally, I would have liked to have a shimmery red cardstock but I wasn’t able to acquire any so I tried to make the rest of the elements as flashy as possible. I’ve made a few different cards with this stamp set that I’ll share over this week. I’ll start off my Chinese New Year card series with a normal card.
Besides the Lion Dance stamp set, I also used Mama Elephant’s Lunar Extras, their coordinating dies, and Grid Window Creative Cuts.
I heat embossed the Chinese characters with Recollection Gold Tinsel Embossing Powder and cut square pieces of Gold Glitter cardstock to alternate in the background.
I wanted lots of dimension to the card but I didn’t want to use foam tape on the frame but I still wanted it the same thickness as foam tape, so I cut the Grid Window 3 times out of 110lb blue card stock and once out of red 65lb cardstock and adhered them together.
I coloured the images with the following Copic colours:
R46, R27, 0, Y06, Y02, E95, YR00, B37, B34, 100, W7, W5, E47, E43, R22, R20
I also used a White Gelly Roll Pen to give highlights to the hair and brushed the clothing, lanterns, fans, and flowers with Clear Wink Of Stella.
The images were adhered in each square with 3M foam tape.
Thanks for stopping by!
