I’m back today with a custom card request. I was asked to make a dinosaur birthday card for a special little boy turning 5! I don’t own that many dinosaur stamps but MFT’s You’re Rawr-some stamp set seemed fitting.
This is what I came up with:
If you’re unfamiliar with box cards, you can check out my box card base tutorial below:

There are 3 slats in this box to start and I used patterned paper from Craft Smith Melon Patch Paper Pad and Recollections Traditional Holiday Christmas Paper Pad.
This little boy’s favourite colour is red. I tend to shy away from using red unless it’s for Christmas, Chinese New Year, or Valentines Day. While picking paper, I was really trying to not make it look Christmasy.
The following images came from the following stamp sets:
MFT You’re Rawr-some: T-rex and Palm Tree
MFT Beary Special Birthday: Large party hat
MFT Happy Hippos: Birds, Cake, Small party hats
MFT’s dinosaur stamps are all fairly large so I was unable to fit any other dinosaur because I really wanted that birthday cake to be in the card. I think the little birds are a great compliment to the scene though.
I used the following Copic markers:
T-rex: G05,G02,Y08, Y06
Tree: E37, E33, YG06, YG11
Birds:Y08, Y06, YR02
Cake: B02, B00, YG06, R29, Y06
Party Hats: YG06, B02, R29, Y06 (designs were drawn in with a 0.3 Copic Multi Liner)
I die cut a grass border using MFT’s Tall Grassy Edge Die and placed them on the front of the box card and the third slat.
I wanted the ground to look rocky, so I cut 2 borders with Mama Elephant’s Kingdom Trio Die out of kraft card stock and ink blended with some Ground Espresso Distress Ink. I placed these borders on my first and second slat. I attached them into my card with acetate tabs.
I adhered the bird that looks like it’s flying, onto a strip of acetate and onto my second slat. I glued the other birds, cake, and T-rex directly onto the landscape pieces. The palm tree was adhered directly to the background.
The sentiment, “You’re Rawr-some, have a dino-mite birthday”, came from the You’re Rawr-some stamp set and was heat embossed with WOW Opaque Bright White Embossing Powder.
I finished up the card by adding a bit of extra grass and a little bird to the back of the card writing space.
