Lawn Fawnatics Challenge #19: Lawn Fawn Rooting For You Box Pop Up Card

So I didn’t think I would have time the rest of this year to make a card but I was wrong. I came down with the flu despite getting the flu shot this year so I tried to stay away from people as much as possible while I was trying to recover. It kind of sucks because it is the Christmas season but I think it’s better that I keep my germs to myself.

I haven’t done a Lawn Fawnatics Challenge for a while and I saw their current challenge was,” Use Your Favorite Lawn Fawn” set so I had to jump in on the challenge.

I had a hard time deciding which stamp set to use!! I narrowed it down to Mermaid For You, Happy Howlidays, Snow Day, Out Of This World, and Rooting For You. I decided on Rooting For You because I haven’t used it as much as the others.

This is what I came up with:

I used the Lawn Fawn Scalloped Box Pop Up Die to make my box card base. If you’re unfamiliar with this die, you can check out my video below:

I assembled the base then decided to mattes and panels for the box card. If you would like the measurements that I used, you can check out this blog post here.

The patterned paper I used were from DCWV The Playtime Stack and DCWV Confetti Paper Pad.

I originally put 3 slats in my box card but I only ended up using 2 for the design.

For the background I ink blended Distress Inks Evergreen Bough, Mermaid Lagoon, and Tumbled Glass.

For all the root vegetables I used the following inks:
-Lawn Fawn: Lobster, Noble Fir, Celery Stick, Freshly Cut Grass, Jalapeno, Ballet Slipper, Sugarplum, Fresh Lavender, Butter, Carrot, Fake Tan.
-Mama Elephant Moonlight
-Hero Arts Intense Black

I used Lawn Fawn Simple Stitched Hillside Borders and die cut 3 hillsides and roughly sponged them with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. I adhered them into my box card with my Zig Two Way Glue Pen.

I adhered the vegetables to the hills and propped the front watering can and radish up with scrap pieces of acetate. I also glued an extra radish and turnip to the back of the card as a little decorative element.

I finished up the card my heat embossing the sentiment, “have an upbeet day”, with Ranger White Superfine Detail Embossing Powder. I didn’t use this embossing powder for any particular reason, I reached for white embossing powder in my drawer and this is the first one that I grabbed so I decided to use it.

Simon Says Stamp Black Friday Crafty Parcel Unboxing

Ever wonder what kind of stuff is in the Simon Says Stamp Black Friday Crafty Parcel? I was always curious too and this year I managed to snag one. I originally didn’t have the intention to buy it because last year it sold out in minutes. I just happen to wonder onto the site at 2201 (mountain time) and I saw that it was for sale, so into my cart it went and I quickly checked out.

The Crafty Parcel was listing for $69.99USD. I read that the contents of the parcel was valued around $200USD, so at $69.99, it sounded like a great deal. I was super excited to get it and honestly hoped that it contained patterned paper, ink pads and stamp sets that I could use for my box pop up cards.

I received the box and it contained 25 items.

You can check out my unboxing video below:

In no particular order, here’s a list of the stuff I received.

1. Manuscript Decorative Sealing Cool Melt Wax Gun
2. Small Cylinder Metal Tin
3. Memory Box Thanks a Melon Mini Stamp Set
4. Illustrated Faith Seeds of Faith Stamp Set
5. Stampendous Cling Create Fall Set (Stamp and Stencil Set)
6. Stampers Anonymous Flower Wood Block Stamp (3″x3.25″)

8. Illustrated Faith 53 piece Epoxy Stickers
9. Pink Paislee Summer Lights Set (40 pieces)
10. Donna Downey Quilted Words -CREATE

21. Avery Elle Tweet TWeet Die Set
22. Wildrose Studio Reindeer Die
23. Donna Downey Ruban Trim
24. Stencil Girl 9″x12″ Stencil
25. Shrink Plastic

I honestly don’t think that I can use a lot of what was in the package for the style that I currently craft in. I am keeping a couple things for myself and selling and giving away the rest. I was a bit disappointed in the Simon Says Stamp dies that I received as I don’t own the stamp sets and when I looked online, it looks like the stamp sets are discontinued so they are pretty much useless to me. The Avery Elle Tweet Tweet stamp set is still available if I wanted to buy it so I could actually potentially use these dies. I’m not really into Bible Journalling, scrapbooking, or planners so I will be giving some of these items away to friends that I think will use them.

I know the overall value is over $200 and the items in the box might be awesome for some people, but unfortunately for me, I don’t think a lot of these things fit into my current crafting style and I don’t think paying $69.99USD plus an additional $22.99 for shipping to Canada and with the current exchange rate, was worth it for me. Although it was kind of fun having a mystery box and going through it, I don’t think it was worth it for me and I don’t think I will be purchasing the Crafty Parcel in the future.

Simon Says Stamp Cute Snowflakes Watercolor Christmas Card

I had the mindset that I would try to make holiday cards all year round but it was so hard to find motivation. I also told myself last year that I would work on my watercolouring and I can’t say I have done much toward that goal. A few projects here and there but nothing much to make me feel like I have made progression in any skill.

So for the last card in my Youtube Holiday Card Series 2017, I’m doing some Distress Ink watercolouring with Simon Says Stamps Cute Snowflake Stamp Set. This stamp set was originally part of a Simon Says Stamp card kit that was released last year. I still love the stamp set but definitely don’t use it enough.

+w6bWFStStyOZvIFM4RpLg_thumb_176d

I heat embossed a bunch of the snowflakes along the edges of the card with WOW Opaque Bright White Embossing Powder. Then I stamped the sentiment, “Wishing you the happiest, merriest, brightest, most fun filled Christmas ever”, from the Simon Says Stamp Peace On Earth Stamp Set, and embossed it with Recollections Gold Embossing Powder.

For my watercolours, I used Distress Inks Cracked Pistachio, Twisted Citron, Mermaid Lagoon, Tumbled Glass, and Blueprint Sketch. I smooshed the ink onto a slick surface, wet my watercolour panel down first then picked up the colour with a brush and applied the colour to my surface.

I cut down the panel using Mama Elephant’s large stitched border from their Peek A Frame Creative Cuts then applied 3M Foam tape to the back and adhered it to my card base.

I basically just explained it all but you can also watch how it came together here:

This card design is also great for making multiples!

MFT Deer Friends Christmas Box Pop Up Card

Another stamp set in my to-use pile, I absolutely adore the deer images in MFT’s Deer Friends Stamp set. I had the idea to do this card for a while but never got around to it until now.

The Deer Friends stamp set coordinates really well with the Sweet Forest Friends stamp set. I haven’t used that one in a while either so I pulled it out for this card. I really wish I had more time in a day to craft. I have so many projects and ideas that I want to execute but so little time.

This is what I came up with:

The patterned paper used for decorative panels on this box card were from Recollections Be Merry Paper Pad and there were 2 slats in my box card to start.

Something I did that was a bit different on this card was I stamped all my images out with Versafine on Bristol Smooth Paper and I heat embossed all the images with WOW Clear Gloss Embossing Powder. I did it this way so I could use my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens. I don’t use this colour medium enough. I really need to diversify how I do things.

Anyways, you can watch how the card came together here:

Lawn Fawn Winter Unicorn Box Pop Up Card

I love Lawn Fawn’s mini sets. I bought this Winter Unicorn set a while ago and I really needed to use it as it was in my growing pile of to-use stuff. It’s a cute stamp set at a great price point!

I decided to make a relatively simple box pop up card (compared to some of my other pop up cards). Scroll to the bottom for a Youtube tutorial.

MFT Polar Pals Shaker Card

I’m really loving MFT’s Polar Bear Pals stamp set these days.

I bought the retired MFT Merry Christmas Centerpieces Dienamics last year during their retirement sale but it’s been in my to-use pile for a while. It’s finally time to bring it out as the holidays are quickly approaching. I decided to make a simple shaker card.

Xod+qHowQGq5jHhjt6K+ug_thumb_1750 (1)

Just something quick and easy. I masked off the die cut center and strips to make stripes with some low tack tape and I ink blended with Distress Oxide Inks Cracked Pistachio and Lucky Clover. I’m really loving the Distress Oxide Inks these days. I really like their pigment ink qualities, like being able to use them on dark coloured cardstock as well as being slow drying so they blend easily. They honestly blend like butter.
